25 Jun GAFIRS Emergency Services Day scheduled for July 15
Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (GAFIRS) will be throwing open its doors on July 15 to the public – and inviting its fellow emergency services along for the day too!
The event, which starts at 11am, will let members of the public meet GAFIRS frontline lifeboat crew and see a display by both the service’s main lifeboat and its smaller inshore lifeboat.
Also scheduled to attend the day are representatives from police, fire, ambulance and coastguard services as well as bomb disposal and SERV Blood Runners.
GAFIRS also plans to showcase its work with the Coastguard Helicopter 175, which is based at Lee-on-the-Solent, with an exercise just off the station at 2pm.
GAFIRS events coordinator Jake Robinson said: ‘There will be lots for people of all ages to see and do. We’ll have a cake stall from the Stokes Road WI and all of the emergency services will be providing demonstrations of what they do.
‘This event is a great opportunity to see first hand and up close the work your local emergency services do and have a closer look at the work GAFIRS Lifeboat does to keep the waters safe around The Solent and Portsmouth Harbour.’
GAFIRS is also on the look-out for raffle prizes for the day. If you have a donation that can be made to the cause, please email fundraising@gafirs.org.uk.
The event runs from 11am to 4pm and attendance of the services is subject to operational requirements.
